Pickpocket Prevention
Crowded grandstands and parade perimeters attract opportunistic pickpockets. Wear a cross-body bag or money belt under clothes. Never carry original passports or large amounts of cash.
Water Balloons & Foam Protection
A staple Carnival tradition involves spray foam (*espuma*) and water balloons. Keep phones, cameras, and optics inside waterproof plastic pouches or zip-bags at all times.
Safe Transportation
Only take official radio taxis (with registered phone numbers on roof signs). Never enter unmarked street vehicles, especially at night or around the bus terminal.
