The Parade Route Stages
1. Starting Point: Av. Folklore / Villarroel
Where dancers assemble, adjust costumes, and warm up. High energy and crowd excitement as groups launch their 4km journey.
2. Central Avenue: Av. 6 de Agosto ("Avenida del Folklore")
The widest, longest section featuring multi-tiered elevated grandstand seating (*graderías*). Prime location for brass band acoustics and full choreography displays.
3. Civic Plaza: Plaza 10 de Febrero
The historic main square of Oruro. Features VIP seating boxes (*palcos*), live national television broadcasts, government officials, and press booths.
4. The Ascent: Calle Junín & Adolfo Mier
An uphill stretch testing the endurance of heavy costume bearers as they approach the final sanctuary steps.
5. Final Sanctuary: Plaza del Socavón
The emotional climax. Dancers enter the Sanctuary of Socavón on their knees, crawling to the altar to offer prayers to the Virgin Mary.
Insider Viewing Tips
- Reserve Grandstands Early: Seat tickets (*puestos*) for Av. 6 de Agosto and Plaza 10 de Febrero sell out weeks ahead.
- Bring Sun Protection & Rain Gear: Weather alternates between intense high-altitude sun and sudden rain/foam spray.
- Night Atmosphere: The parade runs until 3:00 AM+. Bring warm thermal layers as temperatures plunge after sunset.
